The Maestro Online is a rapidly expanding advanced music studies platform. It seeks to be the finest resource in the world for improvisation, theory and musicianship masterclasses from leading global musicians who have reached the very top of their professions.
The Music Resources
The masterclasses are self-study pre-recorded courses by global experts. They have tasks and objectives that create a succinct pedagogy and curriculum, with measurable targets. The resources enhance what conservatoires and universities already offer. They are an addition to one-to-one lessons, rapidly improving core musicianship and each individual’s creativity as well as skills such as transposition. The limited time that students have with 1-1 tutors means that it is essential for them to extend their skills through their own self-study.
There are two key objectives for the learner.
- The platform helps ensure that every person become a fully rounded musician in terms of the range of their skills.
- Everyone should develop an understanding of music theory through practical means. Improvisation masterclasses are in a range of styles from Renaissance through Baroque (preludes, toccatas, chorale trios, fugue, stylus fantasticus), Classical (including partimenti), Romantic expression, silent movie improvisation, and even advanced jazz and gospel. There are also choral conducting masterclasses and holistic vocal technique. These advanced creative activities lead to a greater depth of understanding and more musically expressive performance of repertoire.
Monitoring Student Progress
The platform is modern and forward looking. All courses include clear tasks and objectives that need completing and marked as “done” on each page. All courses include summary assessments with a quiz style assessment. Many courses include interactive software that displays multiple features simultaneously such as traditional notes, solfege hand signs, solfege letters, piano keyboards, and so on. Often the software examples can be transposed and the tempo changed as needed.
